Ladders for Leaders Employer
Edgina Désormeau is the founder and CEO of DE|1989, a media and communications firm that is entering their second year as a participant in the Ladders program. Edgina explains the impact the program has had on her company,
The CYE team sat down with Edgina Désormeau from DE|1989 and Ladders intern Giselle Rodriguez to hear more about their experiences with Ladders. Here is an excerpt from that conversation:
How has Ladders for Leaders benefited your company? The Ladders for Leaders team made the process very seamless and straightforward. It has proven to be instrumental to our firm. As a small and relatively new company without trendy ‘start-up’ competitive benefits to offer, attracting cream of the crop, young talent is certainly challenging. Participating in a program like Ladders for Leaders helped tap into a talent pool that would have otherwise been unobtainable for us. We’ve recommended the program to several of our colleagues and clients.
What kind of work did the interns perform at DE|1989?
We brought on two interns through the program. Both had similar responsibilities and we did our best to expose them to every aspect of the firm. From business development to client campaign strategy and tactics. While they were with us, they were a really important part of the team.
Giselle, what do you remember from your experience with Ladders?
We basically assisted Edgina with anything that she needed. A big part of our job was research. We also did some first draft writing, made phone calls, searched for speaker engagements for their clients, updated status worksheets and brainstormed ideas and client approaches.
It was great working with Eddie. She is a very driven, down- to-earth person. Through the process, I also learned a lot about the PR industry.
Were there any projects or assignments, in particular, that you were proud of while working there?
I helped come up with the idea that DE|1989 could help showcase the stories of other startup influencers and brands. We started collaborating with a number of smaller bloggers and companies and offered our website as a platform to showcase some of their writing and get exposure for their brands. It was cool to help launch something like that.
