Mayor de Blasio’s administration has built and strengthened an inter-agency ecosystem of policies and programs to meet the unique needs of vulnerable LGBTQ youth. In September 2017, First Lady McCray launched the NYC Unity Project—a shared commitment across 16 city agencies to ensure every LGBTQ young person in NYC is safe, supported, and healthy. The Unity Project calls for a multi-agency strategy to deliver new and enhanced services that address the unique challenges of LGBTQ youth, including those related to work and career success.
As one of the Unity Project partners focused on employment of vulnerable youth, CYE is working with the Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) and the Hetrick-Martin Institute (HMI) to developing an LGBTQ youth workforce best practices manual. The manual, to be completed in summer 2018, will offer guidance for organizations to provide culturally competent, affirming services to the LGBTQ youth in their workforce programs.
