As part of its mission to help young New Yorkers explore potential careers, the Center for Youth Employment has launched CareerPass—a set of opportunities for youth and young adults to visit prominent New York City employers in a variety of industries including Finance, Insurance, Fashion, Real Estate, Hospitality, Media, and Technology. Interested firms host small groups of youth (typically 15-18 visitors) for part of a work day, arranging a tour of their work space and discussions with staff who share their personal career journeys and describe their business operations and the various career paths within their industry. Organizations that have hosted youth include the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Buzzfeed, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, the Financial Times, Marriott Marquis, MasterCard and NASDAQ, among many others.
CareerPass provides an invaluable opportunity for youth to get a sense of what it’s like to work for some of the City’s highest profile companies, gleaned directly from industry professionals. Participants come away with a better understanding of the organization’s day-to-day business activities that can inform their own decisions about possible future career paths and what educational and work experiences they should pursue to fulfill their own ambitions.
Employers interested in hosting a CareerPass visit, or schools or provider organizations that would like to arrange a visit for their students or participating youth, should contact CYE here.
